100th Anniversary

For Cub Scouts:

Video Games is one of the 13 new belt loops and pins in the Cub Scout Academics and Sports program. It’s been more than 10 years since the program expanded, so volunteers and Cub Scouts from around the country have been waiting for this change.  There are two helpful sites available so that you can learn more about these changes: The identification of the new and revised belt loop and pins and (for the first time on-line ever)  a complete listing of all belt loop and pin requirements.

For Boy Scouts there are several changes:

·      The centennial edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is now available, and with the new handbook come several rank requirement changes that are in effect as of January 1, 2010.  These can be found at the 2010 Rank Requirement Changes site.  Note: If a Scout started work toward a rank before January 1, 2010, using the  requirements that were current before January 1, 2010, he may complete THAT RANK ONLY using the old requirements. Any progress toward a rank that is begun after January 1, 2010, must use the requirements as they are presented in the Boy Scout Handbook  or in the 2010 Boy Scout Requirements book. The fact that a Scout can work on the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class simultaneously does NOT mean that he is "working toward all three ranks". He can NOT use the old requirements for all three. Similarly, if a Scout has multiple merit badges, he is NOT "working toward Star, Life, and Eagle". He may only use the old requirements for the NEXT rank he completes.

·         There are several new Merit Badges set for release.  A list of all these Merit badges s found on this site.  Details on Scuba Diving – the first of these merit badges – can be found here.

·         In conjunction with the 100th Anniversary of Scouting four old Merit Badges are being re-released for one year only.  While the program has not been finalized, initial descriptions can be found on Scouting Magazine’s Blog.

·         Unofficial information on the Boy Scout changes can be found at the USScouts.org site.  Please note that the USScouts.org is a wholly independent site and may not reflect BSA policy.  Click here to find out highlighted information on advancement changes from USScouts.org
