Support Scouting
There are many ways that you can support the over 31,000 youth that we serve in the Connecticut Rivers Council. We currently have an operating budget of $5,000,000, spending approximately $150 per youth member.
One of our main funding sources is the Friends of Scouting campaign (FOS).
Another source of funding for the Connecticut Rivers Council is Special Events. Special Events is done by both the districts and by the council. District special events include golf tournaments, clay shoots, and leadership awards receptions and dinners. The annual council special events are the Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner, the Connecticut Rivers Golf Classic, and the Sporting Clay Shoot for Scouting.
We also receive some funding from grants and foundations for special projects and programs like campership. These are usually from foundations that are set up to donate dollars to worthy organizations that meet the goals of that particular foundation.
Another unique way that we receive funding is through “In Kind Donations”. This allows donors to choose an item or items from our operations budget and either pay for that item, or donate the actually product.
A significant financial contributor to our council is the United Way. We work with seven United Ways here in Connecticut and their total gift attributes for roughly 7% of our total operations budget.
A quickly growing method of funding for our council is our annual “Trails End Popcorn Campaign”.
Another way to invest in Scouting is through an Endowment Gift. In 1978, the Connecticut Rivers Council set up a permanent, professionally managed and restricted trust so that the principle remains in perpetuity, with earned income used annually in support of the Scouting programs.
Please keep in mind that many companies have a matching gift and volunteer grant programs. Please contact the human resources department at your company, to see if they have one of these program.
Some people or communities may wish to support building projects or renovations at one of our camps by giving to Capital Improvements.
You may wish to use our Donate Your Used Vehicle for a tax deduction program. These donations include cars, truck, boats, campers, buses, motorcycles, jet ski, etc. |
