Connecticut Rivers Council will again offer the National Archery Association basic archery instructor certification course for all individuals who will be running an archery range at any Cub Scout day camp, Cub Scout resident camp, or Boy Scout camp. You will earn a nationally recognized accreditation that is recognized by the State of Connecticut. As such, this course is also open to other individuals who will be running archery ranges at 4-H camps, private camps (i.e., The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp), etc. The course will be held at the Chip’s Cabin at June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation in Ashford CT on Saturday, 19 June 2010. The class will run from 0730 – 1800. The classroom portion of the course will cover range safety, basic parts of a recurve bow and Genesis bow, proper shooting form, a review of “SHOOTING SPORTS for Cub Scouts”, and a discussion on proper time management on the range. The classroom session follows the format set forth in the “USA Archery Basic Archery Instructor Course” booklet which each participant receives. The afternoon session will be spent on the archery range where the participant will demonstrate proper archery shooting form by doing what he/she learned that morning. Those individuals who will be working at Boy Scout camps (and other interested individuals) will also learn how to make bow strings; this is an archery merit badge requirement normally taught at the intermediate archery instructor level. The basic archery instructor certification is valid for three years from the date of the course. The instructors for this course are experienced NAA certified level 3 and intermediate archery instructors. The cost of the course is $95.00.
