The Ordeal

Dear Order of the Arrow Ordeal Candidate:

Your peers have selected you as a candidate for election into our lodge. You have been elected to be part of an order that helps you become a leader for yourself, for your troop, and your community. This is a great honor and there are many rewarding years ahead for you as a lodge brother. In order to complete your induction into the Order of the Arrow, an ordeal weekend and induction ceremony is scheduled each year, which you must attend within a year of being elected, otherwise you must be re-elected. Check the link below to view Ordeal Dates and Locations for 2019. You should plan on checking in by 7PM on Friday evening with Part A & B of a BSA medical form (parental signature). You should bring something for dinner or eat before you arrive. The weekend ends Sunday Morning at approximately 10AM, after the 9AM Jump Start / Parents’ Meeting. You must remain until 10:00 AM Sunday morning to complete the weekend’s activities.

You should be prepared to spend a night in the woods under the stars, and to work on Saturday. When you arrive on Friday evening please have your sleeping bag, a waterproof ground cloth, and a poncho (in case of inclement weather) rolled and tied together and separate from your other camping gear since you will need only these items on Friday night. You should also bring some work clothes and work gloves for Saturday and a complete class-A uniform which you will wear on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Packing List

The cost for a candidate is $50.00, which includes an OA sash, an OA pocket flap, an OA handbook, and meals and 2019 dues. If you plan to attend an ordeal, you must register online. If you have any questions about a specific Ordeal, there is contact information for the adviser on all the Ordeal sign-up pages.

Please click here for info on the seven ordeals offered this year.   Please note they are held at each of our council camps, but on different weekends.

While there, please check a message to newly elected candidates from a past National Chief (there is also one for your parents) AND print out the list of what to bring, and what not to bring.
